QIGONG
This is an ancient Chinese therapeutic exercise system.
Q (or sometimes pronounced Chi) means Vital Energy or Life Force,
unique to each Individual, and Gong means to cultivate. Qigong practise
consists of two areas; simple, gentle and slow movements co-ordinated
with breathing, and holding postures. Here at Eastern Health and fitness
we practise Wudangs Eight section Brocade, Standing Poles, Eighteen
Stance Taiji Qigong and Makkho.
How can it help? The
very nature of Qigong practise will harmonise and
rejuvenate all the physical systems of the body, and it contemplative
and
meditative elements can also have a profound effect on the emotions.
Qigong can be practised
by anybody of any age or ability. It can be done very gently and slowly
or vigorously depending on the needs of the individual. Qigong
will be helpful in the support of health problems, stress management
and to aid weight loss, or just for relaxation and enjoyment.

TAI
CHI CHUAN Tai Chi means “Supreme Ultimate”
and Chuan means “fist”. It is referred to as an internal
or soft school of Chinese martial art, Here we practise the Wudang
system of Tai Chi as taught by Dan Docherty. The syllabus consists
of the Tai Chi form, both short and long, pushing hands, fighting
applications, weapons as well as an understanding of the Tai Chi Classic.
What does it do? Like Qigong
Tai Chi movements are slow and graceful,
harmonising both physical and emotional well being. Tai Chi can be
the
ultimate in physical, emotional and spiritual expression. The elements
of Tai chi will enhance stamina and fitness, aid co-ordination, confidence
and body awareness. Although Tai Chi is a martial art, the vast majority
of people who practise do so for health reasons. Understanding the
martial applications can only enhance our tai chi.

YOGA
means “union”, of body, mind and spirit. Many people are
familiar with Yoga and believe it to be a contortionist performance
of various
positions .
At Shining tree we explore the Tibetan, Japanese and Taoist systems
as well as Hatha Yoga. The techniques that we teach are practised
in standing and sitting postures as well as some floor work, therefore
a large majority of students who cannot exercise on the floor will
benefit.
Whats in it for me? Similar to Qigong and Tai Chi Chuan ,
Yoga is another very powerful therapeutic system which helps us holistically.
Its gentle dynamic stretching postures and its stationary meditative
postures help us to realise it is more than just another physical
exercise.
Qigong, Tai Chi Chuan and Yoga can all be practised by anyone of any
age or ability.
