Shiatsu

What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is an ancient Japanese healing art based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Acupuncture.
TCM understand that good health is a state of harmony of the person within themselves and also with the universe around them. The Five Element Theory of: Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood; relates systems and organs of the body to each element. Health symptoms, foods, seasons and emotions are all linked to each element; for example, the water element relates to the kidney and bladder; the season is winter, and the emotions are: focus and moving forward and fear.
In Shiatsu, "dis-ease" is seen as a disruption of our vital force or Ki, (or sometimes called Chi) either as a blockage or an imbalance. This could manifest itself physically or emotionally. Shiatsu healing is a mutli-level healing system.
Examination and diagnosis is achieved by listening, character analysis by voice, tongue, pulse and Hara (abdomen) diagnosis.

What does it treat?

Shiatsu treats all health problems. The problems frequently seen at Shining Tree are Pain syndromes i.e. musculo-skeletal problems, digestive/bowel problems, hormonal problems, allergies, stress & depression.

How does it work?

The treatment of Shiatsu consists of:

1.Body work: This is a powerful yet gentle system of stretching and holding along the acupuncture meridians and points. This harmonises the body/mind and spirit by optimising blood biochemistry, balancing the energetics of the person and thereby profoundly promoting healing .
2.Exercise: Gentle systems of Japanese Yoga and meditation which is taught both on the floor and standing or sitting helps us to make a relationship with ourselves, and so empower us to resolve and heal physical and emotional issues.
3.Nutrition: The right food for you at the right time of your life. Finding out what suits you and your own personal requirements to obtain maximum benefits from the foods that you need.
